Madeleine Marx-Bentley is a Brisbane-based documentary photographer who concentrates her photographic practice on documenting communities including completing works exploring environmental rehabilitation, mental health work, addiction rehabilitation, marginalisation and sexuality. Since 2005 she has been published in local, state and national publications, and has photographed in several locations internationally.

Madeleine believes firmly in the ability of photography to illuminate ideas, issues, experiences and landscapes in an immediately engaging fashion, thereby encouraging the viewer’s discussion and participation in a manner which words alone often cannot.

In 2009, Madeleine is exhibiting her project “Families, Friends, Partners & Lovers” in a solo showing at the Brisbane Powerhouse from March 31st to April 19th, is undertaking a project and an exhibition in Latvia and is the recipient of a Queensland State Government Q150 Community Fund grant to undertake a year-long photographic project documenting the residents and residences of Torbreck Home Units Pty Ltd in its 50th year.
